How accurate are these exchange rates?
Rates reflect the live interbank mid-rate quoted by major liquidity providers. Rates at banks and money exchanges include a spread (markup) of 1-3% above the mid-rate.
What is the mid-market rate?
The mid-market (or interbank) rate is the midpoint between buy and sell rates. It is the rate you see on Google or XE.com. Wise (formerly TransferWise) offers rates very close to mid-market for transfers.
Why do banks charge more than the mid-rate?
Banks and exchange bureaus add a spread as their profit margin — typically 1-5% above mid-market for retail customers. For large transfers, services like Wise or Revolut offer ~0.3-0.5% above mid-market.
